Children & Worship
It is often said that if you wish to know what Episcopalians believe, come worship and pray with us. It is in our liturgy that we hear and respond to God as a Community. It is here that we are a people engaged in ‘Common Prayer’.
Children & Eucharist
It is our greatest joy to offer the youngest among us opportunity to experience the love of God and to know what it means to be a part of a worshipping community! All of God’s people, regardless of age, are welcome to receive Holy Eucharist. For families using the Nursery we encourage you to pick your children up from the nursery so they, too may celebrate with us. Our church family just isn’t complete without them!
Children In Service
Children are present and active in many aspects of worship at All Souls, including participation as acolytes, ushers and choir members. At the 9am service, on the 1st and 3rd Sundays children and their parents are welcomed to join the Presiding Priest at the altar, for the Liturgy of the Table.
Hospitality is a foundational virtue found in the stories of scripture. Participation in worship by the St. Cecilia Choir and the St. Nicholas Choir greatly enhances our common worship. Please refer to the music section of this booklet for information about participation in the children’s choirs.
Gospel for Children
During the gospel and sermon, at the 9 a.m. service, the children (ages 5 – 9) are invited to Children’s Chapel in the Owen Library. The crucifer leads them out just after the reading of the gospel, and they return at the Peace. Children’s Chapel is instruction about worship, scripture, and our church year, geared toward the young church member.
Located in the 1st room of the Children’s Education Wing (behind the Owen Library), the nursery is a safe and inviting space. It has been carefully furnished to meet the needs of our youngest. In addition to beautiful materials which engage and stimulate them and meet their developmental needs, there are loving arms to hold and comfort them. The nursery is open from 8:45 a.m. through the 11:15 a.m., service throughout the year.
